• Candidates must submit a completed application form (Part B) by mid December of the academic year before entry to ensure first wave notification (February-March). Applications for all grades are accepted throughout the year. (see FAQ's for more information)
• Each candidate must submit, with the application form, copies of his final report cards from the previous two academic years and copies of the present year’s report cards as they become available.
• Each candidate must have his present school complete the Student Profile Sheet (Part C of the application) and return it to St. Michael’s College School in confidence.
• Candidates for Grade 7, 8 and 9 must write and submit the results of the SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test), including writing sample. SSAT results are not required at this time for admission to Grades 10, 11 or 12.
• Letters of recommendation or reference are not required but may be included with the completed application.
• Due to the large number of candidates, personal interviews are not part of the admission’s process at this time.
Admission and Catholicity
St. Michael’s College School is owned and operated by the Basilian Fathers, a teaching order of Catholic priests. As such, we are a Catholic school and give preference to Catholic candidates. A small percentage of our student body is non-Catholic. In general, non-Catholic admissions are baptized Christians who follow their faith in a consistent fashion. They also carry with them a high academic standing and a well-rounded portfolio of extra curriculars from an assortment of areas. Non-Catholic candidates compete with each other for admission to St. Michael’s College School.
Admission Criteria
The Admission’s Committee considers the following criteria.
• The candidate’s academic standing as seen by his report card marks and commentary.
• The candidate’s Student Profile as completed and submitted by his present school.
• The candidate’s completed application form, in particular his Parish and Community involvement and extra curricular activities.
• The candidate’s results of writing the SSAT, including his writing sample for Grade 7, 8 and 9 candidates.
The review of each candidate is based on the stated criteria, each holding its own merit. In conjunction with each criteria, the Admission’s Committee holds the candidate’s academic standing as paramount, but not solely, in its deliberations.
Candidates of Alumni
Each year candidates related to alumni, in particular sons of alumni and those who presently have or have had brothers at St. Michael’s College School apply for admission. The Admission’s Committee acknowledges these candidates’ status in the initial stages of the admissions process. These candidates are then considered based on the criteria above. Having an alumni connection to St. Michael’s does not guarantee admission to the College School.
