5 Fast Facts: Christmas Music Concerts

Over 300 St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) students will help usher in the Advent season this week with the annual SMCS Christmas Concerts on November 26 and 28. 

The Sr. Band will be giving a preview performance for several local elementary schools and SMCS Grade 7 students on Monday, November 25.

On Tuesday, November 26, the first concert at 6:30 p.m. will feature the SMCS Grade 8 music classes and their massive 123-piece concert band along with the Sr. Band as special guests. The second concert on Tuesday, beginning at 8 p.m., will feature the Sr. Concert Band along with special guests - the Holy Name of Mary College School (HNMCS) Sr. Choir. 

On Thursday, November 28, the SMCS Jr. and Sr. Jazz Ensembles and the Grade 9 and 10 class bands will be performing.

Here are some fast facts about the upcoming concerts:

  1. Sr. Band will perform the famous opera aria ‘Nessun Dorma’ sung by our new Director of the Musical and Choir, Anne Morrone. 
  2. Sr. Band will perform a narrated version of ‘'Twas the Night Before Christmas’.
  3. With 123 members, it’s the largest Grade 8 Band to ever perform on our SMCS stage.
  4. The Jr. Jazz Ensemble is 26 members strong—one of the largest in our history. 
  5. The Sr. Concert Band’s finale on Tuesday night will be 'All I want for Christmas is you,’ made famous by Mariah Carey, and will be sung by the HNMCS Choir.
