A Closer Look: Media Arts

The Media Arts Programme at St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) goes beyond teaching students fundamental skills in video and image making by using these mediums as a way to explore a world of ideas.

SMCS Media Arts Programme is run by Mr. Gus Escobedo

The course, offered to Grades 11 and 12 students, underwent a major shift seven years ago where its focus changed to pursuing critical thinking and ideas and away from focusing on specific technologies. While students still explore photography and video, they do while exploring concepts in media literacy such as mass media, social media, politics and culture, as well as advertising and graphic design.
