New Look Blooms for Parents' Association Gala

The venue, look, and feel will be fresh and brand new when the curtain lifts on the 2020 edition of the St. Michael’s College School Parents’ Association’s (SMCSPA) annual fundraiser.

“St. Michael’s College School has been hosting a fashion show for decades and it has repeatedly exceeded our community-building and fundraising expectations beyond belief,” says Ellie Maggio, President of the SMCSPA. “Times are changing and it was a good time to introduce a new concept – one that is more far-reaching for the entire St. Michael’s community.”

Enter, a ‘Night In Bloom’, a gala evening set to take place at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex on April 30, 2020.

“Monica Saverino, co-chair of the SMCSPA Fundraising Committee, says attendees can expect “a gourmet three-course dinner, pre-dinner appetizers and luxe drink stations, open bar throughout the Gala, silent and live auctions, as well as dancing the night away to high-level entertainment and a live band.”

A parent of two current students, Saverino and co-chair Franca Siesto say they felt it was important to volunteer to help plan this event.

“I believe that the boys at St. Michael’s need to have every opportunity to enrich their education and that requires funds,” says Siesto, who has a son in Grade 9. “This gives me an opportunity to assist in raising those funds and it makes me feel good knowing that I can help make a difference.”

Saverino adds, “Funds raised assist with the many events, school activities, technology-related items, as well as sports items requested throughout the year. These funds are made available to all students to better enrich their time at school.”

The St. Michael’s College School Parents’ Association (SMCSPA) holds an annual fundraising event which directly supports student needs.

Typically, the SMCSPA’s annual fundraiser has netted, on average, $60,000 a year. All money raised goes directly to funding requests received from faculty and staff at SMCS and which meet specific, stated criteria.

“A great investment was purchasing the covered benches for the field,” says Siesto. “These allow our boys to stay dry during sports events. A huge game-changer for our boys!”

The SMCSPA’s annual fundraiser has enabled the purchase of items including:

Academics: Robotic systems
3D Printers
Lab Coats
Science Hot Plates
Arts: Bass guitar
Drumline equipment
Athletics: Goalie equipment
Snowboarding tuning equipment
Tripods for filming
Soccer and rugby balls for training
Clubs & Activities: Chess Masters
Board games
Flight simulators
Table tennis tables

Materials used in academic programming, including Science, have been among the items purchased through funds raised by the SMCSPA’s annual fundraising event.

“Whatever your contribution --- buying tickets, buying items at the silent auction, or sponsoring the event --- the funds directly go to your son’s education,” says Siesto. “They are the ones who ultimately benefit!”

She adds, “I encourage the parent community to come to this event and support their boys, you will meet new people, make new friends, and have a great night out!”
